Holistic Care Association under Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University organized a Workshop (Hands on training) on “Communication skills for healthcare providers” on 29th & 30th  March. 2022 at SGT University, Gurugram.

Workshop (Hands on training) on “Communication skills for healthcare providers” was organized by Ms. Bharti Sachdeva Sahni, Organizing Secretary, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing under the Supervision of Dr. Settepalli Jasmin Debora, Organizing Co- Chairperson. There were 45 Participants from MSc Nursing, NPCC (Nurse Practitioner), PG students(General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics’ & Gynecology, Medicine, Anesthesia), Staff Nurses & Ward In-charges.

The main goal of this workshop is to strengthen effective Communication among HealthCare Providers.

Inaugural session was embraced by  Chief Guest Dr. OP Kalra Vice chancellor SGT University and Guest of honor Dr. Reena Nayyar, Executive Director, Medical and Health Sciences, Dr. Sunil K Dular Dean, Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Deepa Chugh, Principal National Heart Institute, New Delhi, Ms. Arvinder Kaur Pabla, CLC, SGTU, Dr. Settapalli Jasmin Debora, Ms. Bharti Sachdeva.

Day-1 First session was taken by Dr. Settapalli Jasmin Debora, HOD, Medical Surgical Nursing Department, Faculty of Nursing on Importance of Communication in patient care. She emphasized on importance of communication in patient care and the impact of poor communication in patient care.  Then Prof. Deepa Chugh, Principal, National Heart Institute, New Delhi took session on Managing Patients’ expectation and advanced communication skills for challenging situation in Healthcare settings, sensitizing the need of managing patient’s expectations with practical/relatable examples, She has beautifully explained how Communication skills can help in improving healthcare and make a remarkable difference in- patient care. Next session was taken by Ms. Arvinder Kaur Pabla, CLC, SGTU on Developing Communication competency among Healthcare providers, shared her valuable knowledge on developing communication competency with active audience participation.

Day-2 Ms. Bharti Sachdeva, Associate Professor, Medical Surgical Nursing dealt with Case studies and discussions, then Dr. Amit Dangi,  Associate Professor, FCAN, SGTU took session on Leadership styles and their impact on Interpersonal Communication, teaching us different types of leadership styles and their impact on interpersonal communication. He had beautifully embraced the talk with the live examples of the legends who believed in themselves and helped others also to achieve their goals, Dr. Pankaj Abrol, Professor cum H.O.D, Department of Pediatrics, FMHS, SGTU talked on Patients’ rights and Non-negotiable Behavior, He emphasized on the importance of patient care above all other things. then LT. Col. Sandhya, DNS cum Training Head Medanta, The Medicity, Gurugram, She took session on Handing over and patient safety which is most pivotal in healthcare. During the event active participation of students was seen in Role plays and Group Discussion.
